What Does the CIPC Do?

The goal of the CIPC is to minimize the impacts of invasive alien plants in the region through:

  • Effecting a well educated and aware population;
  • Coordinating management between agencies and land occupiers;
  • Completing and maintaining comprehensive baseline inventory and mapping;
  • Preventing new introductions; and,
  • Containing, controlling and eradicating existing infestations.

Some of our planned activities include:

  • Annual Coordination Meetings to bring land managers together to discuss high priority invasive plant species and potential strategies for cooperation
  • Information sharing between stakeholders on invasive plant initiatives and beneficial management practices
  • Weed Hotline for residents to report weeds or ask questions
  • Display booth at fall fairs and other community events
  • Public talks at special events and for interest groups to explain the importance of invasive plant management and the current state of the region
  • Press releases on regional invasive plants of concern
  • Educational materials such as fact sheets and brochures
  • Inventory and removal of new invasive plant species
